Re:     Hurricane Ike

To provide for the public's safety, I, Hardin County Judge Billy Caraway, hereby order a curfew for all citizens of Hardin County between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., effective immediately. Anyone found in violation of this order could face charges. We appreciate your cooperation.

Texas Governor Rick Perry's office has assured Judge Caraway that residents who evacuated under the voluntary order will be eligible for the same benefits as those under a mandatory order.

Emergency Management officials will monitor the situation throughout the duration of the storm. Additionally, the Hardin County Sheriff's Office has tripled the amount of deputies on patrol. It is imperative that residents stay indoors and use caution during this weather event since conditions are expected to deteriorate thoughout the night and into the morning and emergency service will be available only if it is safe to do so.

Power outages are expected. Generators should be kept outside in an area with very good ventilation. NEVER use a generator in an enclosed area. To do so would expose you to carbon monoxide, which can cause severe brain damage and even death.

The Hardin County courthouse is closed.

Residents with questions can call the Hardin County Emergency Management Office at 246-5119.
