On Monday, June 22, 2009, elected officials and dignitaries gathered in the Courthouse for a formal presentation ceremony to receive the first CDBG Hurricane Ike Recovery grant award made by the Office of Rural Community Affairs (ORCA) which approved $12 million for repairs to Hardin County. The project is part of hurricane recovery funded through a $3 billion disaster recovery allocation from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and overseen by ORCA. The federal funds were awarded to Texas for recovery costs from Hurricanes Ike and Dolly, Ike being the costliest hurricane to strike Texas. This grant was received through the concerted efforts of the Hardin County Commissioners who submitted deserving projects from their respective precincts. Hardin County will benefit greatly from these funds.
