City of Lumberton Selling AlcoholSeptember 1, 2009; hardin cmsuser
HARDIN COUNTY NEWS RELEASE On Thursday, August 27, 2009, the Hardin County Clerk, Glenda Alston, under the advisement of the County Attorney, Rebecca Walton, issued a formal notice to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission that two convenience stores in the City of Lumberton were selling alcohol in a dry area. This action was taken after an overturned election, a denied petition, statute changes by the legislature, and numerous hours of research into past precinct boundaries and wet-dry elections. Public safety and concerns have been closely monitored throughout the process. The store operators have been very cooperative and patient, stating numerous times that they only wanted to do what the law required. This deliberate, time consuming effort was the only proper way to insure that in the future, Lumberton’s votes would count without legal concerns.
